On Saturday, Aniplex for Inherit the Winds anime (Japanese – Kaze wo Tsugumono) revealed a promotional video, cast members, announced January 2027 release date, and early theatre screening in 2026. The anime series will premiere in January 2027 on the “Agaru Anime” programming block on CBC, TBS channels, and 26 other affiliated networks.
About Inherit the Winds Anime
Set in June of 1863, the story follows a man with no memory who is brought to the Mibu Roushigumi headquarters in Kyoto. Taken in by vice-commander Souji Okita, he is given the name Jinsuke Tachikawa and begins life as a member of the group. As the Mibu Roushigumi—later known as the Shinsengumi—gain prominence amid the turmoil of the late Edo period, Jinsuke and his comrades are swept up in the era’s upheaval. When Jinsuke finally regains all his memories, the world around him is forever changed.

The anime is also getting four panel manga adaptation by Muramatsu Matsuri. Narui Yutaka is a playwright and founder of the theatrical troupe Caramel Box who has previously worked on many stage plays themed on the Shinsengumi.
